October is a big month for snack boxes: Japan goes all in on Halloween and autumn flavors, and the world snack boxes are already pushing their holiday calendars. Here are four snack subscription boxes worth a look this month, what’s inside each, what they cost and who each one suits. Prices and contents were checked on each brand’s site on October 12, 2026.
TokyoTreat: Halloween Fright Fest

TokyoTreat’s October box is all Halloween. According to TokyoTreat, it includes:
- A limited-edition Halloween KitKat in one of two flavors: NY Cheesecake x Spider-Man or Baskin-Robbins Chocolate Mint Ice Cream
- Pokémon Halloween Chocolate Puffs, with a random Pokémon design on each pack
- Creepy Crawlie Yakisoba Noodles
- Black Pumpkin Gratin Fright Rings
- “Many more” snacks not listed yet
Price: $37.50 a month on the monthly plan, less per box on 3-, 6- and 12-month prepaid plans, plus shipping. Deadline: order by October 22 to get this box.
Best for: pop-culture fans and families who want fun, limited-edition candy and chips.
Sakuraco: Echoes of Ukiyo-e

Sakuraco, TokyoTreat’s more traditional sister box, takes its October theme from ukiyo-e woodblock prints. Sakuraco lists these items:
- Kuromame Tea
- Ukiyo-e Printed Cookie
- Choju-giga Kaya Cloth (a home item)
- Choju-giga Hozui Marshmallow
- Matcha Mizu Yokan and Chestnut Manju
- Twisted Arare, Curry Senbei and Kabuki Renjishi Senbei
- Nori Wind Okoshi and Matcha Thunder Okoshi
- Azuki Mochi Monaka, Spiral Karinto and Kinako Kibi Dango
- Savory Ginkgo Nuts
Each box also comes with a 24-page culture guide. Price: $37.50 a month on the monthly plan, less per box on prepaid plans, plus shipping. Deadline: sign up by October 15 for this box.
Best for: tea lovers and anyone who prefers wagashi and artisan snacks over candy.
Bokksu: Koyo Downstream

Bokksu’s October box, Volume #90, is themed Koyo Downstream, after Japan’s autumn leaves drifting down rivers like the Tatsuta in Nara and the Hozugawa in Kyoto. According to Bokksu, it holds thirteen snacks and a seasonal momiji hojicha from twelve prefectures, including a mandarin manju, a maple-named senbei from Saitama, chili crackers from Okinawa’s Miyako Island and a hojicha in a maple-leaf print from Kyoto.
Price: $39.99 billed monthly, down to $32.99 a box billed every 12 months (bokksu.com). If you’re already thinking about December, we covered Bokksu’s 2026 advent calendar.
Best for: snackers who want small-maker regional specialties and the story behind each one.
Universal Yums: snacks from a new country, and new advent calendars

Universal Yums ships a box of snacks from a different country each month; its current Baltic States box (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) sells from $29 (Yum) to $39 (Yum Yum) and $59 (Super Yum) on its own. The bigger news is the holiday lineup. Universal Yums has three new country advent calendars, Grand Yums Hotel Tokyo, Stockholm and London, at $49.99 each, with 24 days of candy from that country, and an Around the World Advent Calendar at $34.99. Order by November 24 to open door 1 on December 1, according to Universal Yums. It also says there’s no Holiday Subscription Box this year, with a new “Yum Voyage” box launching later this month.
Best for: families and gift givers who want variety beyond Japan.
Our take: which snack box to pick in October
For Halloween, TokyoTreat is the obvious pick, but don’t wait: the order deadline is October 22. For a calmer, more grown-up box, Sakuraco’s ukiyo-e theme is the most cohesive this month, and its deadline comes first (October 15). Bokksu is the one to choose if you care about where each snack comes from. Universal Yums is the best value for variety and, with three new country calendars, a strong advent option for snack fans. We haven’t tested these boxes.
