ButcherBox is running a big sign-up promotion: new members can choose free NY strip steaks or filet mignons in every box for a year, or free chicken breasts for life. ButcherBox puts the value of a year of free protein at up to $422, as shown on its homepage on November 2, 2026.

- Free filet mignons for a year, added to your boxes for 12 months
- Free chicken breasts for life, for as long as you stay a member

ButcherBox says the free protein for 12 months is worth up to $422. The brand has not listed an end date for the promotion on its homepage, so treat it as limited.
How ButcherBox Works
ButcherBox is a monthly meat and seafood delivery: you build a box from 100+ cuts (grass-fed beef, free-range organic chicken, crate-free pork, and sustainably sourced seafood) and it ships frozen with dry ice. Shipping is free, and you can skip, change, or cancel anytime from your account, according to ButcherBox. The brand’s own price comparison lists its Signature Medium box at $8.52 to $15.23 per pound, with pricing effective as of January 8, 2026.
Which Option to Pick
If you plan to stay a year, the filet mignon option is the premium cut and the clearest win. If you are unsure how long you will keep the box, chicken for life has no 12-month cap, but it only pays off the longer you stay. The NY strip sits in the middle for steak fans who cook on the grill.
Our Take
“Free steak for a year” is one of ButcherBox’s strongest sign-up hooks, and it lands just before the holiday cooking season. The value only adds up if you keep the subscription, so it suits households that already buy quality meat every month. With free shipping and skip-anytime controls, the risk is low if you set a reminder.
- Best for: families who cook meat several times a week, grass-fed beef buyers, holiday hosts
- Skip it if: you have little freezer space, or you only want a one-time order
