Illumicrate’s December 2026 box is called Storytellers, and the book is The Fires of December by Brandon Sanderson, in an exclusive Royal hardback edition. The full box costs $43 a month in the US, $12 more than the book-only option, and that difference buys four themed items plus a desk calendar (our math).
Illumicrate December 2026: The Book
Illumicrate revealed the theme on November 3, 2026. The Fires of December is an adult high fantasy standalone. Illumicrate pitches it to fans of “sarcastic narrators with character and personality,” “ragtag friendship groups trying to save the world” and “standalone entrypoints to expansive universes.” The heroine sets out to stop a deadly plague before it begins, armed with tenacity and “the demon cat she met along the way.” Source: Illumicrate.
The Exclusive Royal Hardback
The Illumicrate edition includes:
- An exclusive redesigned cover
- A reverse jacket featuring the publisher’s trade cover
- Full color art and foil on the hardback
- Digitally printed edges on all three sides
- Illustrated endpapers with foil, different front and back

What’s in the Full Box
Alongside the book, the full box will feature four “useful and decorative” items inspired by the Storytellers theme and three fandoms: The Everlasting, The Raven Tower and Redwall. It also includes a multi-fandom desk calendar. Illumicrate has not named the individual items yet. Source: Illumicrate.
Illumicrate lists content warnings for the book, including death of loved ones, violence, blood and gore, pandemic disease, infertility, domestic abuse and xenophobia.
The $12 Question: Full Box or Book Only?
On Illumicrate’s US store, the full box is $43 a month and the book-only plan is $31 a month, both plus shipping. The $12 gap covers four items and a desk calendar, about $2.40 per extra (our math). For a Sanderson fan who wants a matching shelf, book only is enough; the desk calendar is the extra that tips the full box for us.
Waitlist Only
As of November 5, 2026, the Illumicrate Fantasy subscription shows a waitlist on the US store rather than an open sign-up, so new readers can’t simply order the December box. Illumicrate ships monthly boxes at the end of each month, from a US warehouse for US and Canadian subscribers. Source: Illumicrate.
Our Take
A Brandon Sanderson standalone in an exclusive with digitally printed edges is one of the strongest book picks of the year for a fantasy box, and it is a good entry point for readers who haven’t started his longer series. If you are on the waitlist, December is the month to hope for a spot. Compare with FairyLoot’s December 2026 boxes and last month’s Illumicrate November 2026 Saints and Sinners box, or read our Illumicrate review page.
- Best for: Brandon Sanderson fans and collectors of special edition hardbacks
